Valley Fever, Where Murder is Contagious

If you’ve read your Saroyan, you might think that the San Joaquin Valley is a gentle, peaceful place, where almost everyone is a good-hearted Armenian, and everyone is happy.

If you’ve ever lived there, you know that California’s Central Valley has a dark side, too, and it gets hot . . . and very deadly.

Valley Fever is a collection of fictional stories by three women who write about the underbelly of Fresno, the “All-American City,” and its surrounding areas. These award-winning authors combine their talents and their tales to present a collection of mayhem, murder, malice and hot-blooded passion. Some of the stories are funny, some frightening, but all are wicked.

Reviews

"An enjoyable read for anyone who has ever lived in or visited the Valley; for those who just enjoy good murder mysteries; and for others who are simply curious about this part of the world, you will not be disappointed. . . the authors explore the unique flavors that set the Valley apart from other parts of California, but also its dark underbelly. Five stars." ~ Laurel-Rain Snow  Top 1000 Reviewer Vine Voice

"I loved the multiple meanings behind the title of this book of short stories; these little murder mysteries, where Valley Fever includes the meaning of intensely hot summers that can cause a person so much anguish that murder seems inevitable. But Valley Fever also is, to those of us who live in the inland valleys of California, a disease hidden beneath the layers of dry dusty soil that strikes without warning and can sometimes be fatal.

These stories capture perfectly the dark hidden underneath of the cities and towns in the San Joaquin Valley. I read this book during a three day heat wave when the thermometer in my yard screamed 115; it helped capture the mood perfectly. All the stories are interesting; many have a tongue-in-cheek gallows type humorous ending. The 3 writers have distinct voices, and I have several favorite stories from each of them in this collection. A very easy to read, and if your looking for a little murder and anarchy this book is a good choice. 4 stars" ~ Pamela Barrett, Vine Voice
